For survivors of the residential school system, news of these figures come as no surprise. Later, the Constitution Act in 1982 recognized and affirmed existing Aboriginal and treaty rights. The gap between the employment rates of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal women was particularly wide in the 15 to 24 age group in which 40.0% of Aboriginal women, versus 58.4% of non-Aboriginal women, were employed (data not shown).
